mwBAR NIGHTCLUB OPENINGSNYC Bar Owners Add Golden Drinks DenThe owners of popular downtown Manhattan bar The Up Up debuted a new bar uptown in July Called Stay Gold the Kips Bay venue features three distinct spaces and a creative cocktail list Stay Golds interior includes a front area with an antique gilded bar a back lounge with booth seating and a marble topped bar and an outdoor garden space The concept emphasizes innovative but accessible cocktails 14 and also lists a few customer favorites from The Up Up Standouts include the signature Stay Cold a frozen slushie made with Jim Beam Black Label Bourbon Founders Brewing Co All Day IPA ginger syrup and lemon juice the Mezcal Safe cracker comprising Montelobos Joven mezcal Campari aperitif and Ancho Reyes chili liqueur and the Captain Barnacles mixing Old Duff genever Fords gin grape fruit juice and seltzer The bar also lists several domestic and imported craft beers 6 11 a draft pour bottle or can wines by the glass 12 19 and upscale snacks 4 13 including togarashi seasoned popcorn and grilled cheese Co owners Matt Piacentini and Chaim Dauermann worked to create a space thats both contempo rary and historical by using design elements like polka dots and checkerboard squares Located in Manhattans Kips Bay neighborhood Stay Gold has three unique bar areas front bar pictured and offers an innovative approachable cocktail menu Denver Welcomes Coffee Shop Cocktail BarLocated in a large converted warehouse space the coffee shop cocktail bar hybrid Improper City opened in July in Denvers RiNo neighborhood The venue serves coffee made with locally roasted beans and has kombucha on tap as well as a bustling beverage alcohol program Improper City pours more than 25 beers on draft 350 750 a 10 ounce pour 550 11 a 16 ounce pour and has several more in cans 4 8 These are joined by a selec tion of ciders 5 6 a draft pour wines 7 11 a glass 12 a can and cocktails 8 16 Specialty drinks include the Tom Cat Old Fashioned made with Barr Hill Tom Cat gin agave syrup and lemon juice and the Vida y Muerte Negroni mixing Del Maguey Vida mezcal Campari and Punt e Mes vermouth mwLaura Pelner Set in a repurposed airplane fuselage tiki concept Last Rites opened in late June in San Franciscos Duboce Trian gle The bars interior mimics a tropical jungle with banyan tree roots stone idols parachute fabric and plane jump seats throughout Tropical cocktails and more than 150 rums dominate the drinks menu Highlighting natural wines and offering only glass pours Bar Norman opened in July in Portland Oregon The intimate venue created by local wine guru Dana Frank lists roughly 25 wines emphasizing boutique labels with minimal produc tion These are joined by a small menu of wine friendly fare Los Angeles historic The Mayfair Hotel reopened in July after a massive revamp bringing with it two new venues The Library and M Bar The Library offers a secluded drinks escape with a fireplace and book lined walls while M Bar has a live lier atmosphere and a roster of handcrafted cocktails craft beer wines and upscale snacks The Chinese influenced brewpub Bixi Beer opened in late July in Chicagos Logan Square neighborhood The venues first level offers beers that incorporate Asian ingredients while the upper level rooftop space serves specialty cocktails with Asian components Tiki Bar Opens In SF Portland Goes Natural L A Hotel Gets New Bars PHOTO BY LEFT MATT PIACENTINIIn Denver Improper City serves coffee along side beers ciders wines and cocktails SEPTEMBER 2018 MARKETWATCHMAG COM MARKET WATCH 17MW0918_
