Leinenkugel Brewing Set To Expand In Milwaukee MillerCoors Leinenkugel Brewing is set to grow capacity at its Milwaukee Wisconsin brewery with a new 50 million expansion project according to local reports The project includes plans for a new packaging and warehouse facility spanning roughly 119000 square feet as well as the addition of a 2280 square foot brewhouse expansion and a 9077 squarefoot tank cellar Along with its Milwaukee operations Leinenkugels operates a main brewery in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin The Leinenkugels brand is best known for its Shandy range including its Grapefruit Shandy which sold nearly a quartermillion 225 gallon cases in its first year on the market in 2015 according to Impact Databank A B InBevs Blue Point Building New Brewery Long Islands Blue Point Brewing part of Anheuser Busch InBevs A B InBev The High End portfolio is planning to build a new brewery at the downtown Patchogue campus of Briarcliffe College the Long Island Press reports The new 20000 square foot facility will have capacity of 60000 barrels and also feature a second floor brewpub overlooking the production floor Construction is slated to being in June with plans to open early next year The newspaper reports that construction costs at new facility where the brewery signed a 15 year lease will total 35 million A B InBev paid 24 million for Blue Point in 2014 Legislative News Craft Beverage Act Returns To Congress The Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act has been reintroduced in both chambers of Congress backed by Senators Ron Wyden and Roy Blunt and Representatives Erik Paulsen and Ron Kind The bipartisan bill which was first proposed in 2015 aims to reduce the federal excise to 350 a barrel on the first 60000 barrels for domestic brewers producing fewer than 2 million barrels annually It would also cut excise tax to 16 per barrel on the first 6 million barrels for all other brewers and beer importers with the rate holding steady at 18 per barrel on production over that threshold Since its introduction the bill has received strong support from The Brewers Association with additional endorsements also coming from the National Barley Growers Association Hop Growers of America and National Association of Manufacturers among other groups In Memoriam Martin Gold Dies At 81 Martin Gold cofounder of New York City based fine wine importer and distributor Martin Scott Wines passed away on February 6th He was 81 Gold began his wine career at Frederick Wildman Sons eventually becoming president in 1986 In 1989 he founded Martin Scott Wines with Scott Gerber which grew to serve the New York Connecticut and New Jersey markets and represented more than 450 wineries from across several continents In 2013 Gold
